The short version

Semester Calendar does not collect anything about you. There is no account to create, no server of ours to sign in to, and nothing is sent to Sanoa Enterprises: not your timetable, not your name, not how often you open the app, not whether you open it at all.

Your timetable lives on your own devices. If you choose to sync, it also lives in your own Google Drive. We have no copy of it and no way to obtain one.

What the app stores, and where

Everything you enter (courses, classes, tests, tasks, notes, grades, lecturers, institutions and your settings) is stored on the device you entered it on:

On Android, in the app's private storage, which no other app can read.
On Windows, in %APPDATA%\Semester Calendar.
On macOS, in ~/Library/Application Support/Semester Calendar.

If you uninstall the app, that copy is removed with it.

Syncing (optional)

Syncing is off until you turn it on, and the app is fully usable without it.

Google Drive

If you choose to sync through Google Drive, the app signs in to your Google account and writes a single file into a folder named "Semester Calendar" in your Drive.

The app requests only the drive.file permission. That grants access solely to files the app itself created. It cannot read, list or alter anything else in your Drive, and this is enforced by Google rather than promised by us.
The folder is a normal, visible folder. You can open it, copy the file, back it up or delete it at any time, without the app's involvement.
Your Google password is typed into Google's own sign-in page in your own browser. The app never sees it.
The access token Google issues is stored on your device only. It is excluded from cloud backups, so it is never carried onto a different phone.
Sanoa Enterprises never receives your Drive contents, your token, or notification that you signed in. There is no server of ours involved at any point.

You can sign out at any time from Settings. Signing out removes the token from your device and nothing else. Your timetable stays where it is, and the copy in your Drive remains yours to keep or delete.

A folder

Alternatively you may point the app at a folder on your own device or storage. The app writes one file there. Where that folder goes afterwards (a memory stick, a network share, another company's sync client) is entirely your arrangement and outside this policy.

Sharing

You can share a class, test, task or note with somebody as a .semcal file. This only ever happens when you ask for it, and the file goes wherever you send it.

Contact details you have stored for lecturers are deliberately excluded from anything shared. They are not yours to hand out with a timetable.

What we never do

No analytics, telemetry or usage measurement of any kind.
No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
No crash or error reporting sent anywhere.
No third-party tracking libraries. The app contains none.
No accounts, no profiles, no mailing list.
No selling, sharing or disclosure of personal information, because we hold none to sell.

The update check

The app is not distributed through an app store, so nothing else can tell you that a fix exists. When it opens, at most once a day, it asks GitHub for the version number of the latest release, and shows a line saying so if yours is older. You can turn this off in Settings.

The request is a plain public read of github.com/sanoaenterprises/semester-calendar-releases/releases/latest, the same address anybody can open in a browser. It sends nothing about you: not your version number, not your device, not an installation identifier, not an account. It carries only the words SemesterCalendar as a user agent, because GitHub requires one, and it asks only for the headers. The page itself is never downloaded. Nothing is sent back to us, because there is no server of ours for it to be sent to.

It never downloads or installs anything. If there is a newer version, it offers a link; following it is your decision, and so is what you do next.

GitHub will see the request arrive, as any web server sees any request, including your IP address. That is GitHub's to explain, and it is why the check can be switched off.

Which servers the app contacts

With update checking off and Google Drive syncing not set up, the app makes no network connections whatsoever, including when you sync through a folder.

Google's own handling of your Drive and your account is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Permissions on Android

Permission	Why
Notifications	To show the reminders you set for classes, tests and tasks.
Alarms & reminders	So a reminder arrives at the minute you chose rather than whenever the system next wakes.
Full-screen intent	So a class alarm can take over the screen, the way a clock alarm does.
Run at startup	To restore your pending reminders after the phone restarts.
Internet	For the update check, and for Google Drive syncing. Unused if you turn the first off and do not set up the second.

The app does not request access to your contacts, location, camera, microphone, photos, files, or any device identifier.

Children

Semester Calendar is a study planner intended for students in secondary and higher education. It is not directed at children under 13, and it collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

Your data, your control

Because we hold nothing, there is nothing for us to disclose, correct or delete on your behalf. You are in direct control of every copy:

Export a backup at any time from Settings.
Delete the app's copy by uninstalling it.
Delete the synced copy by removing the "Semester Calendar" folder from your Drive.
Revoke the app's access to your Drive at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version will be published at this address with a new date at the top. Since the app has no way to contact you, which is rather the point, there is no notification to expect.
